Honoring the Journey: Lessons in Trusting the Process in Motherhood

Updated: Sep 27

In 2023, I’m choosing to focus on honoring the journey rather than obsessing over the destination.

Here’s why.

In 2022, I was laser-focused on hitting my goals. I had a vision of where I wanted to be, and I chased it with everything I had. But as the year went on, those goals didn’t come to fruition the way I had hoped. And it left me feeling defeated, questioning myself, and wondering where I went wrong.

But God, in His grace, reminded me of something crucial: I don’t control the outcomes of my life—He does. My role is not to force things into place but to trust in His plan and follow His lead, even when it doesn’t make sense. My journey is shaped not by my striving, but by my obedience.

Last year, I made a bold decision. I left a job that drained me so I could stay home with my son, and I started a business to help other moms do the same. I thought I had finally found balance, but in reality, I quickly became burned out. I pushed through the exhaustion, ignoring the still, quiet voice telling me to rest. Rest, Jaree. Just rest.

But I didn’t listen. My disobedience led me down a path of anxiety and stress. I felt overwhelmed, stuck in a cycle of pushing myself beyond my limits until I had no choice but to surrender.

It wasn’t until I finally took that rest—when I allowed myself to recharge and reset—that I saw things clearly. God wasn’t asking me to achieve everything all at once. He was calling me to focus on the process. The process of becoming.

In the process, I began to appreciate both the low moments and the high. The lows became powerful lessons, shaping me into a stronger, more resilient woman. The highs served as a reminder of God’s unshakable faithfulness, a reflection of His promises being fulfilled in ways I hadn’t even anticipated.

Here’s the thing, mama: Achieving goals feels amazing, but that feeling? It’s temporary. What truly lasts is the transformation that happens along the way. Goals aren’t just about checking a box or reaching a milestone—they’re about who we need to become in order to reach them.

So, I invite you to shift your focus this year. Instead of getting lost in the hustle of achieving, focus on the journey—on becoming the best version of yourself, the woman God is calling you to be.

Who do you want to become? What kind of mom, wife, woman, and leader are you striving to be?

Let life be your teacher. Embrace the lessons, both in the struggle and in the joy. Take time to love on yourself, to celebrate just how far you’ve come. Don’t rush the process—evolve.

Let Trusting the Process in Motherhood be your guide to better living.

When you evolve, the vision God has planted in your heart will unfold in His perfect timing.

I am choosing to trust God to guide me on this journey. My prayer is that as I honor this process, He will continue to pour out His blessings and overflow into my life.

Will you do the same?

Are you focused on the process or the end goal this year? I’d love to hear from you in the
