As a mom running a business, the days can often feel overwhelming, like you're pulled in every direction at once. Between the needs of my family, my wellness, and growing my business, staying focused and present is a daily challenge. But I’ve discovered that with a bit of discipline and intention, it’s possible to reclaim my time and energy—and be the mom and business owner I want to be.
Here’s how I do it:
1. Removing Apps to Reconnect with What Matters
I used to think I could manage it all—emails, social media, work tasks—right from my phone. But the truth is, all those little distractions were keeping me from truly being present. So, I made a decision that wasn’t easy but was completely necessary: I deleted the apps that weren’t serving me. I let go of social media apps that pulled me into endless scrolling, google drive that kept my mind occupied but drained my time, and notifications that interrupted precious moments with my kids.
At first, I felt disconnected, but then I realized something powerful. Without those constant interruptions, I started to feel more connected to my life, my work, and most importantly, my family. It was like I could finally breathe and be fully in the moment. Taking apps off my phone created space—space for my kids’ laughter, for deep work sessions, and for my own wellness. It’s not always easy, but it’s a discipline that helps me show up as the best version of myself.
2. Focusing on a Few Key Tasks Each Day
I used to pride myself on being able to do it all. But trying to tackle a never-ending to-do list left me drained and feeling like I was never doing enough. So, I shifted my approach. I am more focused on maximizing my productivity as a a Mompreneur. Now, I focus on 3 to 4 essential tasks each day. These are the things that will truly move the needle, whether for my family, my wellness, or my business.
On the weekend, I use one day where I lean on my husband or in-laws to help with the kids so I can focus on my business. This dedicated time is life saving for me. Knowing that my children are in good hands allows me to fully dive into my work without distractions. I use this time to tackle 3-4 essential tasks, such as creating content or handling admin work, that will set me up for the week ahead. By staying focused and intentional, I can get a lot done in a short amount of time, making it easier to balance motherhood and my business during the week.
This change has been a game-changer. Instead of feeling scattered, I now feel more accomplished at the end of the day. I can pour my energy into tasks that truly matter, knowing that I’m doing them well without spreading myself too thin.
3. Planning Ahead to Ease the Load
As a productive mom and business owner, winging it is not an option. Planning ahead has become my secret weapon for staying grounded. I take time out time at the start of each week to map out meals, chores, and business priorities. I prep meals in advance when I can, which gives me back precious time during the week. It’s such a relief to know that dinner is taken care of and that I won’t be scrambling at the last minute.
With household chores, I break them into small, manageable chunks, instead of trying to tackle everything at once. This way, I’m not overwhelmed by a messy house, and I know exactly when I’ll have time to dive into my work.
4. Being Intentional About Presence
One of the most important shifts I’ve made is intentionally blocking out time to be fully present—with my kids, with myself, and with my work. It’s easy to think that you’re spending time with your family while answering emails or scrolling through Instagram. But the truth is, I wasn’t really there. So now, I set specific blocks of time where I focus solely on one thing. Whether it’s playing with my kids, enjoying a quiet moment to myself, or knocking out a business task, I give my full attention to whatever’s in front of me.
And it feels good. It feels good to be truly present. My kids feel it, my business feels it, and so do I. It’s a practice of mindfulness that helps me show up more fully in every area of my life.
5. Creating Routines for My Kids and Myself
Routines are my saving grace, not just for my kids, but for me too. Having a structured day gives us all a sense of peace and predictability. My kids know what to expect, whether it’s meal times, nap times, or playtime, and that makes everything run more smoothly. When they’re settled into their routines, I can also focus on mine. I know when I’ll have pockets of time for work or self-care, and that makes a world of difference.
These strategies may seem simple, but they’ve made an incredible impact on my productivity, my family’s well-being, and my own peace of mind. It’s not about being perfect or trying to do it all—it’s about creating boundaries, letting go of distractions, and making room for what truly matters.
To any other mompreneurs out there trying to find balance, I encourage you to give yourself grace. It’s okay to let go of what isn’t serving you and to be present for the things that do. You’ve got this!
