As I reflect on my motherhood journey so far, one powerful lesson continues to resurface: the importance of smelling the flowers. Not just the literal flowers, but the metaphorical ones—the moments, the smiles, the simple joys of life.
I didn’t always understand this.
When I first became a mom, I was consumed by doing everything right. I worried endlessly about everyone else—making sure my baby was cared for, the house was in order, meals were prepared, and every task on my to-do list checked off. It felt like I was pushing through each day, going through the motions with no real connection to what was happening around me.
I was numb. And in that numbness, I lost the joy.
It wasn’t until I began watching my son—his carefree smile, the way he played with boundless curiosity, how he embraced each new experience—that something in me began to shift. His fearlessness, his joy, his ability to be present showed me what I had forgotten: life is meant to be lived.
It hit me deeply, stirring emotions I didn’t even know I was suppressing. Here I was, a mom, watching my son live his life while I was merely surviving mine. And I know I’m not alone in this. So many of us moms feel this weight—the endless responsibilities, the need to "have it all together." But when was the last time we allowed ourselves to just be?
What would it look like to let go of the overwhelm and actually enjoy the now?

You can take a walk without checking your phone or worrying about what’s next on your list.
You can dance in your living room to your favorite song, with your little one in your arms, without caring about what others might think.
You can play with your child and laugh, letting the mess be what it is because these moments with them are fleeting and far more important than perfection.
You can sit with your spouse, talk, and laugh—like you used to—creating new memories in this season of life together.
This is living. This is what motherhood can be—enjoying the moments that are right in front of us.
I had to make a choice: to stop surviving and start living. To shift my mindset from simply getting through the day to embracing the beauty and mess of it all.
